late night ‘mo mix

Was making a mix of some emo-related stuff for a mate but figured I’d chuck it up on here in case anyone wants it.  Not seminal by any means, just some of my favourites.  A lot of mid 90s, some more modern stuff too.  Excuse the uninspired track order, just how it defaulted.  Download link at the bottom.

Absolute gem from the Ash From Sweat back catalogue

On the topic of ‘mo, Ruth really kindly made me a Honeywell jumper.  Excited.

Still an absolute banger.  Really miss this band.

Lumber - Super 8

Fucking love everything about this song.  That chorus.  Like a rowdier version of the older stuff by bands like Ribbon Fix and Rainer Maria.  Or at a push, imagine earlier Lemuria releases with added ‘mo.

Enregistré par Steve Albini - Capitalism

Randomly remembered this band today, havn’t listened to them in years.  Band from France, unfortunately inactive since 2008.  Hard to describe, but it’s groovmo and there’s a saxophone.  If you like stuff like Off Minor, Blame Game, Polaris or other stuff like that you may really dig it?  I think they are a gem of a band.

You can download all their stuff here:  http://stevealbini.free.fr/

Japan purchases!

For my own benefit as much as anything I wanted to document most of the records and gaming stuff I picked up in Japan for the sake of memories.  Tokyo, where most of this stuff was purchased, apparently has the highest density of record stores in the world so I went a bit silly.  All of the gaming stuff was purchased at Super Potato - lifelong dream to go there.  There are some other bits and bobs too.  Maybe some of you music and gaming nerds will get a kick out of it, I dunno, but indulge me. There’s some nice emo and punk bits in here.  Was also a really nice surprise to see my old band What Price, Wonderland? having records in lots of the stores (and not in the bargain bin for once!).

Groovmo from the UK, ex-Bob Tilton.  This tune was (allegedly) created to help you sort out your underwear being uncomfortable on long car journeys.

Please inform the captain this is a hijack - Karma collection day

The verdict’s in, court is closed, payment’s due

It’s karma collection day
And all around the world there’s people saying:
Weapons? Check!
Are you ready? Yes!
Let’s get it on with these devils
I don’t know if there’s hell below
If so, let’s kick them to the lowest level
We march with gas in bottles, zip guns
and pipe bomb power
We march, legions of ants, to devour this mega monster
All members of the international bad guy league take note:
We laugh and cheer and celebrate
every time that you get smoked

I was there at Nasaria
I was there at Diem Bien Phu
I watched you on CNN
Stripped to the ass for the live broadcast
Happy children parade your remains through the streets

I saw you in Montevideo
Stuffed plastic in the trunk of a car
Ask Aldo how it feels
Because tonight, tonight
Everyone dances or nobody dances
To celebrate a midnight verdict
Scrawled in blood on the discotheque walls

You’ve got hands and a heart
and friends that share a gut feeling
A blueprint for combustion
Send the emperor’s assassins reeling
There’s something on the horizon
It’s the terror of every scoundrel
A flock of enemy combatants come to take away your power
Pressure points and arteries, at home and overseas
Capital gains have jugular veins
We’ve got sharpened steel and muscle

I saw you in Mogadishu
I was there on the morning of Tet
We have a date and we won’t forget
That tonight, tonight, we lower your earthly remains
All over the world, we recite your last rites,
a joyous celebration
A holiday to serenade your memory into oblivion

Back to hell
